Hello World

Welcome to my blog built on top of Hugo, Papermod, and Cloudflare Pages. hug

I had originally set this all up on January 2nd but as you can see the date is now set much later. I don’t know anything about Hugo really, and instead of learning about it and then building this blog site, I decided to just publish it and learn Hugo as I go.

So I expect the site will be a bit rough around the edges for a while, while I tune it to my liking.

For example, I’ve discovered so far about Hugo that if you edit the date in the Frontmatter of a post, it has to be in the format of YYYY-MM-DD or else it will not render.

The second thing I discovered inside of frontmatter if the time in the date column isn’t explicitly before the current time on the clock it will not render.

I’m not even sure how I’ll have the site organized yet, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out as I go.

You might see a couple of pages that are just placeholders for now, but I’ll get to them eventually or they’ll come up missin!

I suspect this will be quite the testing ground for me to learn Hugo and Papermod, so I’m sure I’ll be making a lot of changes to the site as I go. I like what I’ve seen so far, and I’ve already got several ideas for how to use Hugo and Papermod in different projects.

I need to figure out how to modify the theme to be able to add links to various on-site pages, like the About page, in the footer, I’m not sure how that would be done but we’re going to find out at see at some point in time.

Overall I enjoy Hugo though (and probably any Jamstack framework), I work in the IT field, developing software, so I get to edit both the blog posts on this website and the site itself inside of an IDE specifically VSCode and I can use Git to version control the site.

Sooner than later I’ll need to be figuring out how to tag things into different categories, and I’ll need to finish adding the search bar to the site.

Because I do not doubt that sooner than later my ADHD will kick in and I’ll suddenly be wanting to talk about something vastly different than what I’m currently planning on working on and posting about.

So with that, I think I’m gonna get outta here create this commit and let Cloudflare build the website. I’ll see you all in the next post.
